GUIDING LIGHT - Fear On My Own Time
Short review: Two thumbs up, this rocks.
Long review: Eight tracks from the Austin, Texas four piece and each one of these eight tracks is a total earworm. Jangly punk. D.Boon would have loved this. Guitar going crazy out here. Each instrument exist so distinctly on their own without stepping on each other's toes. Never having to strain your ear to pick the bass out of riff or anything. It's all laid bare out here. Clean style but not a clean energy, ya know? This shit is still in your face even if it's not a bunch of cranked distortion pedals. Some tracks are truly pogo mosh worthy fist pumpers, a non-obvious conclusion when you first hear this album. We get the classic move where the last song is a little more slow and prodding and twice as long as the rest. When done poorly it's a total snooze – not here.
Favorite track is hard pick between the first two. The vocals in "Shackled By Lust", the opening track, are so catchy. Then on track two "Fear On my Own Time" – how about another incredibly catchy vocal melody? I think I hear some tasteful tambourine in the first track? So good. I could probably go on about each song but I won't. You get the idea.
